He really doesn’t. But he’ll be joining us anyways.
With only a few days left in Italy, we knew there were still more places we wanted to see. Venice, one of the most iconic cities in Italy, had to be one of them. Venice is made up of 118 small islands, with no means of transportation within the city except by boat or your own two feet.
Right as we walked out of the train station, there was a large bridge that crossed the Grand Canal.
(or shall we say “Main Street”)
First thing we did was find a restaurant for lunch. Whilst waiting for our food, a friend of Aryeh’s showed up completely out of the blue. His family was exploring Venice that very same day.
After much cheer and a little discussion, we decided it would be best if he joined us on our venture around Venice for the day. So if you see a purple shirt with ninja turtles on it in any of the pictures, that would be him.
Our primary objective, above everything else, was to find Saint Marks Square.
Yes, not go to, but find.
The streets of Venice are anything but easy to navigate… however we did see some pretty cool stuff on our way (not always in the right direction) to the square.
Turns out the whole gondola ride thing is true. Some kid from 5th grade so owes me 5 bucks now.
Back in the 15th century Venice was very prejudice towards obese people and strategically built their buildings very close together.
These are facts people. You can’t argue with the Internet.
A local shop we stopped at….seems to have all of your Italian necessities:
Tragically, we did not pass by here on Wednesday.
The best thing about Venice is that it’s not a very touristy city and you usually have the whole street to yourself.
Group picture! Hmm… never trust another tourist with the focus. (Also, Aryeh was not a step down – he’s just that short.)
A small parking lot along main street:
After a couple hours of wandering around Venice we finally made it to St. Marks Square!
This square has been called one of the few remaining great urban spaces in Europe where human voices prevail over the sounds of motorized traffic.
Although someone forgot to mention to us the copious amount of pigeons they have at the square.
They were quite friendly.
And that’s how Aryeh got 10 diseases at once and died.
After a little more exploring of the city we headed back to the train station (again – not always in the right direction) and were back in Verona by that night. I hope you’ve enjoyed this small adventure in Venice… with the addition of Neil Patrick Harris.
